Mary Flower, John Standefer, Brooks Robertson – three award-winning, hard-working and unforgettable guitarists and ALL on the same stage at once! Guitars Galore! is presented Friday May 17 by PortlandFolkMusicSociety and it’s a musical conceptual cornucopia of fingerstyles and strings.

Mary Flower’s playing is firmly grounded in the simplicity of early 20th century American music, technically dazzling and renowned for her personal vision of roots music blending rags, blues and spirit. A master of the Piedmont blues guitar voice, her performances include Prairie Home Companion, Winnipeg Folk Fest, Kerrville Folk Fest and many music fests and guitar workshops.

National Fingerstyle Guitar Champ, John Standefer holds a colorful blend of styles and genres in his hands. He’s performed and recorded with Tommy Emmanuel, Guy Van Duser, Doug Smith and regularly writes columns for guitar and music magazines.

Brooks Robertson is way more than two thumbs, eight fingers and six strings on a wooden box and he delivers it all with a punch, panache, and spirit that belies his young 24 years. Like Merle Travis, Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Robertson shares his inspirations in his own musical aggregate.

Hear each guitarist solo, then duets from Standefer and Robertson’s new recording, then all three together in an in-the-round string-bending extravaganza.

The concert begins at 7:30 pm in Carvlin Hall, SE 16th and Division. Tickets are $17 general, $14 PFS members, $8 for youth 12-18. Advanced tickets are recommended and available at www.portlandfolkmusic.org/concerts.
