Bacior’s Meticulous Music

Robin Bacior’s songs are startling pieces of music theatre. Her percussive impressionistic piano sounds ancient and her voice is a majestic river of melody keening with a rolling narrative of articulation. This recent New York transplant performs solo Thursday May 29, 8 pm, at The Press Club, 2621 SE Clinton St.

I Left You, Still in Love cover

Bacior’s new recording is the impressive 5 song set, I Left You, Still in Love, recorded in one day and streamable at robinbacior.bandcamp.com. On the disc, Dan Bindschedler’s cello can be heard soaring in counterpoint and harmonic percussion and since he’s is relocating here soon too, the two will again be performing together this summer.

Her songs are being noticed at places like Vh l, MTV, Nylon, and L Magazine. Find out more at robinbacior.com.

Cosmic Angel: The Illuminati Prince/ss MYKKI BLANCO Performance to Benefit Yale Union

New York based rapper Mykki Blanco will be performing a benefit show for Yale Union on June 30, 2013. Cosmic Angel: The Illuminati Prince/ss is the debut rap release from the multi-talented artist, who has explored the many sides of an international clubbing scene through music and performance art. Melding different genres including rave, hip-hop, trip-hop, and riot grrl as deftly as she switches gender roles, Mykki Blanco swerves with ease in and out of each with artful lyricism, aggressive delivery, and impressive enthusiasm that has made her stand out as an entertainer.

Mykki Blanco’s reflection of different fringe lifestyles connects elements of youth culture to bigger themes of exploration and tolerance. “Cosmic Angel is my way of welcoming the world into my reality, the weirdos, the freaks, alternative black american culture. Sexuality figures in last, we’re talking street life, night life and under the flashing strobe light or the soft glow of the moon everyone and anyone is a Cosmic Angel,” says Blanco.

Making her debut Portland appearance for the second in a series of benefit concerts for Yale Union–this one at neighboring venue Holocene– Mykki Blanco comes from a background of performance arts, poetry, and photography. Blanco is becoming well recognized in the nightclub scene in New York and internationally for her smart and ferocious style; her raps becoming anthems for the underrepresented, turning a crowd of gawkers into an audience.
